Household preparedness

Your household’s plan, organized and shared.

What you have at home, where you’d meet, and who’s where — one plan your household shares, with public safety information from federal sources when conditions change.

The Today screen: Portland weather, air quality and pollen, and each person in a household of four and their dog, with go-bag progress

Our Plan is a household coordination service. It keeps your preparedness information in one shared, offline-first place, and surfaces public safety information from authoritative federal sources — NWS, USGS, AirNow, NIFC, and NOAA — so everyone has shared awareness when conditions change.

Stay put unless you have to go.

Local officials decide when an area should leave. Short of that, the general guidance is to stay home (Ready.gov) — so the plan starts there.

If we stay: supplies for five people for two weeks — water, food, medicines, the dog's food, light and power, first aid — and where they're kept

If we stay

Supplies for the people at home

Water, food, medicines, and power, sized to everyone who lives there and how long you plan for. Tick what you have and note where it's kept, so anyone can find it.

Daniel's places: home and work, each with its stay supplies, and a map of the route from home to the household's meeting place, with the primary, backup and out-of-area meeting places listed below

If we have to leave

Where you'd meet, on a map

A primary and backup meeting place, somewhere out of the area, and the nearest hospital — with how far each is from home, and a map of your area saved to your phone.

Send check-in: the message, a link to the household plan, and the two contacts who will get it by text and email

Check in

Let everyone know you're OK

One tap sends your status, your location (neighborhood or exact, your choice), and a link to the plan to the people you chose — by text and email, including someone outside the area.

Who weather matters most for: Maya is respiratory-sensitive, Leo is heat-sensitive, cold-sensitive and a young child, and Biscuit the dog is marked as a pet

Conditions

Weather that knows your household

Tell it who weather affects — asthma, a kid who overheats, someone on oxygen — and each day reads for them: “a good air day for Maya.” When heat, smoke, or a storm is days out, you get a heads-up, and the plan names who it matters most for.

A heads-up from NWS, and the part of your plan it calls for.

When the National Weather Service issues a watch for one of your places, it shows at the top of Today with the source named. Your plan keeps a page for each hazard your area sees — heat, winter storms, smoke, floods, power outages.

Today with an NWS Extreme Heat Watch for Portland at the top, through tomorrow evening, above the household's weather, air and pollen

Heads-up

A watch for your places

Watches and warnings from NWS, USGS, NIFC, AirNow, and NOAA for wherever your household's places are, with the source on every one.

Extreme heat, 3 of 4 ready: a cooling center to go to, air conditioning, shades on the windows, and water and shade for pets, each with Ready.gov's guidance quoted

Prepare

What that hazard calls for

A short list for each hazard at each home — like where you'd go to cool off — with the official guidance quoted next to every item, so you can see what's ready.

Works offline

Your plan doesn’t need a signal.

Networks go down when conditions change. Your plan lives on your phone, and so does a street map of your area — your meeting places, the route from home to each, and the nearest hospital. It opens without a connection.

  • The whole plan, stored on your device
  • A map of your area, saved to your phone
  • Everyone’s medications and contact numbers, on hand

Three things, one shared place.

Organize the plan, stay informed together, and check in when it matters.

Organize

Home supplies, meeting places, the people and pets on the plan, outside contacts, and each person's go bag — kept together and synced across everyone's devices.

In a life-threatening emergency, call 911. Our Plan is a coordination and information tool — not an emergency response service, and not a substitute for 911. It doesn’t guarantee that a message is delivered.

Questions

What is Our Plan?

A household coordination service. It keeps your preparedness information in one shared place and surfaces public safety information from federal sources when conditions change.

Is it a replacement for 911?

No. Our Plan is for coordination and information — not emergency response, and not a substitute for 911. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Does the app tell me what to do?

No. Our Plan organizes the plan your household writes, and passes through public safety information with the source named. Preparedness suggestions in the app are general information, not advice tailored to you — and where officials have issued instructions, theirs are the ones to follow.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Your plan lives on your device, and you can save a map of your area to your phone, so you can open both without a connection. Check-ins queue and send as soon as signal returns.

How much does it cost?

Our Plan is free for one person, pets included. A membership adds the rest of your household and check-ins: $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year — about $6.67 a month for everyone in the house.

Does everyone in my household pay?

No. One membership covers everyone you add to the plan.

Is it on Android?

Coming soon. Our Plan is launching on iPhone first, with Android to follow — and a household can mix both.

How do I cancel?

Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID account settings. If a membership ends, nobody is removed from the plan — you just can’t add more people or send check-ins until you renew.
